I have also been busy using my photographic 'skills' in a way that has long interested me. Poetry and 'Stories' have a long oral tradition. Many myths and legends were told village to village and person to person by travelling story-tellers who would move around the country weaving their stories into local legends.
Then came artistry on walls and on other mediums. Paper appeared and with moveable type it was possible to print books and, eventually, books with images captured within.
Alongside this evolution, the parallel troubadours and minstrels, who again travelled and wove stories into song and dance, also produced a great tradition and a vital link with the past across millennia.
I have loved taking photographs for years, been writing music and songs for over 15 years, and poetry and fiction for over 45. I have tried to imagine how to combine the three into a playful and entertaining format; not to self-publicise but to explore and communicate, to reach out and cross the divide that is always between us.
Therefore, I have been producing small 'vignettes' over the last year or two and created my own YouTube Channel to put them on in order to give them an airing. If you wanted to have a look you can go here:
'Photography Portfolio #1' (youtu.be/OwtHgAcNnRQ) is totally unique. It is the fusing of a Keith Melhuish original ('Smoke') and my photographs; created for my academic Portfolio. It's not that long and although this first cut is a bit rough round the edges; it is very close to how I saw it in my mind. Why not check it out?
'Photography Portfolio #2' (https://www.youtube.com/edit?o=U&video_id=z6kic4lkd-g) is the second portfolio from my academic studies. In content and form, it bears some similarities to the first one, but is perhaps worthy of a stand-alone entry onto my YouTube Channel.
'Silver Shoes' (www.youtube.com/watch?v=13XtL36cK5Y&t=1s) is an original poem by myself, guitar and music by my collaborator Keith Melhuish and the main recital is by myself. All the photos were taken by myself on the day of Emma and Simon's Wedding in 2015.
'Patchwork Church' (www.youtube.com/watch?=15r56LLxKmE&list=PLA1uJxG3gAdSWv27r2G5TsfOVdnUW51dk) is the first attempt at such a fusion - a piece of music by 'Camel' and me reading a poem written about my local Church. The images on that work were taken on my iPhone to see if I could produce something worthwhile without the backup of a full camera behind me.
'Hilde Johansen Mitchell' (www.youtube.com/watch?v=iv-tdaOvndE&list=PLA1uJxG3gAdRspLRJY1XYAjOB995-NBxn&index=1) is a homage to my late Sister-in-Law, who died suddenly in early 2016. Again, it is set to music (by 'The Swans') but the images and creation that results (plus any errors) are mine.
