The final week is here. I've fettled and furtled and and re-edited my work and I'm now ready to go to the hand in day of the course. All three documents have been completed, checked, re-checked, lost; found again and re-read. I have gone through them as best I can to ensure a consistency across both sets of documents for Unit One and Two and I'm happy with the result. The re-editing did not take as long as I thought it might and I am more than happy with the results I have achieved. It might not be the most explosive portfolio ever submitted; but it is (I believe) competent, subtle and interesting. Like before, I have created a movie of the result set to music and put onto my YouTube Channel. You can reach it here: youtu.be/z6kic4lkd-g Oh, and if you want to see the first one I made, have a look here: www.youtube.com/watch?v=OwtHgAcNnRQ I have enjoyed this course immensely and learnt so much from it that I believe will enable me to enhance my photographs from here on in. I'm far more confident at using Photoshop and the variety of settings and features on my cameras and I'm even wondering if a second course might be an idea in the future... Anyway, I'll update my Gallery here in due course and maybe even update this with the mark I get (but probably only if I pass) when it comes through. Until then, happy snapping....

So, the penultimate week of the course has arrived and here I have to admit to a crises of talent. Looking at one of my classmates' work, mine appeared insipid and only partly completed. This meant I returned home to take a long look at my images and review the changes that were required to put in something I could be proud of.
So, I'm partway through re-editing the images I had chosen and, as an aside; I've realised that one of my favourite images ('Sci-Fi Sky') has probably got to go from the collection. This is, strangely, a 'hazard' of enjoying what you do. My liking of this image since I took it has only increased - yet looking at it among the rest I have chosen it just doesn't fit. I know that I have to let it go and not use it for the printed version of the portfolio - a lesson is not to get too attached to something. Just because you believe it is 'good' does not mean that it is relevant to what you are doing! So, I've started almost from scratch, reviewing the steps taken for each image and where I want to go with it. Looking at the watch and clock motifs and ensuring that they are fairly clear and not too subtle and also linking each image to the next by the repeated use of different clock and watch faces. I have really enjoyed using Photoshop - it's an amazing programme and I feel that I'm getting better at using it with every photo I edit. And returning to the basic starting image and editing from the beginning has not - thus far - been as time consuming as I feared as I'm more adept and confident in using it. Right, have to go snappers, I've photos to edit and they won't work on themselves... |
Alan MitchellI'm always trying to capture that fleeting 'moment' in time -whether by taking a photo or writing a poem. My attempts to capture that illusive feeling, sight, sensation or sound in some way is, to me, magical. Archives
